Some of our team's involvement in World Environment Day in 2005 is brought to mind by Earth Day. World Environment Day is a yearly occasion founded by the United Nations in 1972 and commemorated on June 5th to create awareness about environmental concerns and encourage people to safeguard the planet. The United Nations selects a new host city for World Environment Day each year, and the city is accountable for coordinating events and programs to involve local communities and promote environmental consciousness. The yearly theme of World Environment Day differs, but it always centers on a specific environmental issue.
World Environment Day 2005
The 2005 World Environment Day had the theme “Green Cities: Plan for the Planet!” This theme aimed to draw attention to the negative impact of rapid urbanization on the environment and encourage cities to adopt sustainable practices. San Francisco was the host city, and it organized various events and activities to promote sustainable urban development, including a green building tour, a green jobs fair, and a clean energy conference. The city's reputation for environmental sustainability made it a suitable choice for hosting the event.
